Nashville-based firm designs a facility with a western flare.
NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 11, 2012 — Inner Design Studio, a Nashville-based health care interior design firm, announced recently the completion of the Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Neurological Institute (OMNI) in Billings, Mon. The 8,000-square-foot facility is only the sixth surgery center in the state.
As one of the most accessible cities from various areas of Montana and Wyoming, Billings was the perfect location for Meridian Surgical Partners (Meridian) to open its newest surgical center. The challenge for Inner Design was to create a comfortable, lodge-inspired atmosphere that put patients at ease after what is likely a long drive.
“The OMNI project was a unique experience for us. Patients who go there have traveled extensively, so they will be looking for a comfortable place that feels familiar,” said Pam Faulkner, senior designer for Inner Design Studio and lead designer for the OMNI project. “They want to feel that they will be taken care of.”
Staying true to the lodge-inspired theme, designers used a warm earth tone color palette of taupe, canyon red and espresso brown. The main lobby is consistent with the warm color scheme and draws the eye upward with a vaulted cherry wood paneled ceiling, natural stone columns and textured wall coverings. Oversized club chairs surround a wood-burning fireplace, and create a comfortable waiting area for patients.
The state-of-the-art facility has space for both neurospine surgery as well as orthopedic services. There are a total of seven exam rooms, one operating room and one procedural room. The warm color palette is carried throughout all the rooms.
“One interesting feature is that both the neurospinal and orthopedic practices will share a common conference area,” Faulkner said. “That's unusual for a surgical center, but it allows for a more efficient use of the space and a larger conference area.”
Faulkner added that the doctors' preferences were also a major consideration.
“The doctors wanted more refined spaces, luxury vinyl, high-quality tile and lots of texture,” she said. “We worked very closely with Meridian to ensure that everyone's input was considered.”
The OMNI Surgery Center of Neurospine opened in January.
